Just be you

Just be you

Over the past few weeks I have heard the same sentiment over and over again, “I can only be me”.  Not as an excuse or in a defeatist way. More like “I’m done trying to be like anybody else.  All I can do is be the best me I can be.”   How freeing!

Whenever I start hearing a message repeated by different people and from different sources, it’s pretty clear God is trying to send me a message.  It’s percolating away right now and at some point I may end up writing about it.  In the meantime, I began to think of the people I know who are doing a great job of just being them.  And I thought of Jenny.

I began to think of the people I know who are doing a great job of just being them.

I don’t think I’ve ever actually met Jenny – or if I have it was once and a long time ago.  She lives in a suburb of Sydney, Australia and I live in California. But somehow or other I became Facebook friends with her.

Jenny is a special person.  She is one of the most positive and encouraging people I have encountered.  Jenny has a disability which would cause a lot of people to feel sorry for themselves. Not Jenny. She’s just being the best Jenny she can be.  Her Facebook feed is full of praise for her Heavenly father, encouragement to others, trust in Jesus, faith that prayer works and unwavering belief that miracles happen.

Jenny is a people person. There are hardly any photos on her feed without at least one other person in it.  Her smile is a mile wide and her heart is as big as she is.  Jenny is always inviting people to reach out to her if they need prayer and assuring them that she is already praying for them.

I’m pretty sure that this is the Jenny she would be even if she didn’t have a disability.  This little lady allows God to shine through her bright as the sun.

If I could eavesdrop on the conversations in heaven, I imagine I’d hear the Father telling everyone who would listen how Jenny blesses His heart.

So today, I’m going to follow Jenny’s example and be the best me I can be.

Melissa
